Symptoms of gastric flu include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and cramps. There will be a feeling of over bloating, low fever and extreme tiredness. Normally the stomach takes care of this infection on its own. The person becomes alright within 3 to 4 days or at the most one week. But in some cases the symptoms’ are severe that medication is required immediately. Especially if the infected person is a kid or an elderly person, he or she would need immediate medical attention.

If the symptoms are ignored, then diarrhea and vomiting may lead to dry mouth, dehydration and things like that. When it is high fever, blood spots in vomiting, blood or mucus in diarrhea or severe abdominal pain, then it is imperative to get immediate and prompt medical attention.

Generally symptoms of gastroenteritis are just enough to identify the disease. But if need be, the doctor might ask for your stool sample and test to identify the virus and offer proper medication.

How to Treat Gastric Flu?

There are some over the counter medicine like Pepto Bismol. These medications absorb the toxins in the body. When the infection is more severe and the over the counter medicines are ineffective then it is better to approach the doctor to avoid any further complications. There are some strong antibiotics such as Motofen, or Lomotil. During this period drink lot of water, juices to keep you hydrated.

Some uncomplicated gastric flu can be treated with adjustments in the dietary plans. There are some herbal remedies to treat the gastric flu. There are probiotics powders available that can be taken as a supplementary on a daily basis.

With all this, you should have got an answer to ‘how to treat a gastric flu’. Normally the problem is solved within 2 to 3 days. In case of dehydration, it may take few more days to cure with even in spite of medication. Take rest and follow personal hygiene to get treat effectively and powerfully.
